Gifts that keep giving

This Christmas we all have someone on our gift list who is impossible to buy for – they either have everything or they tell you not to buy them anything but will be upset if you actually listen to them.

Oxfam comes to the rescue with their amazing Oxfam Unwrapped gifts. These are unique gifts that not only solve your Christmas shopping dilemma but gives an amazing gift to someone in the developing world. They way it works is that you purchase your gift as a card to give to your loved one or friends and then the money is donated to buy the gift you purchased in one of 27 countries around the world.
Imagine presenting your friends with their very own donkey, sheep or piglet. If they are not animal lovers you could choose a fruit tree, a well or a bridge. For those Secret Santa gifts that offices across Australia love to spring on you, you can purchase soap, a soccer ball, a chicken, condoms and even a pile of manure – all coming in under $20. All vastly superior to those crappy Santa hats that everyone seems to give.

But the gift giving doesn’t end here as this gift is truly is the gift that keeps on giving. All Oxfam Unwrapped gifts are tax deductible. This means come tax time and you remember where you have stored your receipt, you can claim the cost of the gift back. Everyone wins with an Oxfam Unwrapped gift.

And before you ask, no I am not employed by Oxfam nor associated with them in any way, except as a customer. I just love this idea and want to tell everyone I encounter about it. It is the perfect solution for that impossible to buy for person and makes the world of difference in someone’s life who you will never meet. It is a gift that embodies the true spirit of giving.

This post will also be appearing on Australian Women Online.

  1. HEY!!! You totally stole my post! :)

We do this every year at work instead of a Kris Kringle. Usually manage to get 3-400 dollars and then go ‘shopping’ It is so fun!

Anyway, you did a much better job than I would have, mine would have been all silly like.

Thinking of getting my mum a donkey. For the obvious reasons *gaffaw*

  2. Kelley, I am sorry I stole your blog post idea, but feel free to blog about it anyway. Your blog gets way more traffic than mine and the more people we get excited about Oxfam, the better.
I love your office idea of collecting money for Oxfam instead of doing Kris Kringle – that is such a great idea!

  3. I was only kidding about stealing my idea :) But I will blog about it at some stage, it is such a fabulous way of supporting others, spreading the REAL meaning of the season and stopping idiots regifting what you gave em last year!
