Olympics Fever

It is Olympics time again. Time again to plant your ass on the couch for 2 weeks and become armchair experts in sports you have never heard of before.

I watched the delayed coverage of the Opening Ceremony, cause there was no way I was getting up at 4am to watch it live. I was blown away by the dividing head and the gorgeous timeline of Greek art and sport. The costuming was truly amazing.

I then settled in for a whole day’s viewing of the Olympics. I was thrilled to learn that Channel 7 had dedicated a whole hour to the Women’s basketball match between Australia and Nigeria – that was until I watched the broadcast. It started off beautifully by showing almost all of the 1st quarter uncut and uninterrupted by ads, and then it all went wrong. We would watch the time-outs and then when the game got underway again, we would then go to ads or else switch to the rowing, and then come back to the basketball for another time-out. It went on like this for the rest of the second quarter. We then missed the 3rd quarter and came back to watch the last 2 minutes of the fourth. Totally pathetic!!

At 6pm, we all went over to Mel and Fiona’s to watch the Olympics at their place and have dinner. Watched lots of the rowing and the cycling, plus the swimming heats and some of the men’s gymnastics. Also tuned into The Dream in Athens with Roy and H.G for their wrap-up of the opening and the first day of competition.
